Persons with spasmodic dysphonia experience intermittent blockages of phonation resulting from spasms of the adductor or abductor muscles of the larynx resulting in intermittently choked or strangled production of voice. This has been referred to as “stuttering/stammering of the vocal cords,” or “laryngeal stuttering.”
